Gems, jewelry & heirloom powers

Updated October 26, 2026 · Maintained by the site team

Follow the gem's processing stage and distinguish a crafted accessory from a provenance-bearing heirloom.

Reviewed build: 0.1.190.146 FULL FIXED R4 · October 26, 2026. Built against RimWorld 1.6.4871. DLC requirements are listed below.

Set up the system

  1. Read the recipe for its required cut or polished gem stage.
  2. Use the appropriate jewelry or inlay workbench and check the bill's material requirements.
  3. Inspect a named heirloom for its original history, quality and current bonuses.
  4. Wear or equip an eligible heirloom to receive its saved skill talent.
  5. Use a rare power from the wearer's item command and check its cooldown before planning another use.

Current rules and limits

  • Eligible heirlooms have one skill talent and a 25% chance of a second different skill. Combined bonuses cap at +3 per skill.
  • Only 5% of eligible items receive a daily power. Ordinary material stacks and decorative trophies do not receive wearable talents.
  • Psychic powers require Royalty, psylink and sensitivity. Without Royalty, the power roll selects Calming memory.
  • Transfers and save/reload preserve the rolling 60,000-tick cooldown. Reopening a save does not reroll the item.

Saved skill talents

Talent roll Weight
+1 to the selected skill 70%
+2 to the selected skill 25%
+3 to the selected skill 5%

One eligible heirloom receives one saved talent, with a 25% chance of a second different skill. Combined bonuses cap at +3 per skill. The item must be worn or equipped; carrying it as ordinary inventory does not grant its talent.

Daily means a rolling cooldown

Only 5% of eligible items receive a power. Its cooldown is 60,000 game ticks, carried across transfers and save/reload. Midnight and reopening a save are not reset mechanisms. Royalty psychic powers require the relevant psylink and sensitivity; without Royalty the roll selects Calming memory.

History and item eligibility

The .139 story pool contains 58 provenance entries. Named histories and saved bonuses describe eligible heirlooms; ordinary material stacks and decorative trophies do not become wearable skill items. Check the item’s own inspection information before relying on a bonus.
