Workshops, storage & hauling

Updated October 26, 2026 · Maintained by the site team

Connect tools, ingredients, work orders and reachable storage so production can finish and its output can move.

Reviewed build: 0.1.190.146 FULL FIXED R4 · October 26, 2026. Built against RimWorld 1.6.4871. DLC requirements are listed below.

Build the workshop around the job

Check the exact workbench, research, assigned work type, worker skill and carried tool. Ingredients must match the bill filters and be reachable. The revised Envoy Robe, for example, allows more material types than its original recipe, but an old saved bill can still have a cloth-only filter.

Complex Furniture unlocks the current tool cabinet/storage entry. Storage availability does not replace the need to carry the right tool for a job.

Carts, wagons and tether posts

  • Choose transport appropriate to your research and available puller.
  • Check the attachment and rope-leader information before forming the caravan.
  • Use shared tether posts to manage multiple animals, with individual release and a saved post name.
  • Check the cart icon in People and animals lists to identify attached equipment.

Later updates keep attached animal wagons visible during sleep and provide attachment icons in People and animals lists. A loose cart in cargo is not an attached cart. Shared tether posts support individual release and saved post names.

Urgent hauling and special deliveries

Enable Hauling on eligible pawns and provide a reachable destination with a matching storage filter. Haul ASAP respects protected needs, emergencies and direct player orders. A hauling designation does not override every task or reservation.

Food Rot uses the R4 collection rules. Cleaning-only assignment does not guarantee a delivery: the current implementation still requires Hauling enabled. Full accessible compost bins can need emptying before new collection proceeds.

When a pawn stands at a bench

  1. Record the current job and the item or bill being attempted.
  2. Check ingredients, skill, research, tools, power, temperature and allowed areas as applicable.
  3. Inspect reservations, blocked working positions and output storage.
  4. Try one bill and one worker in a backed-up test colony; avoid changing several unrelated options at once.
  5. Save the before-and-after state and report the smallest repeatable failure.
