Reinforced buildings, EMP & invader displays

Updated October 26, 2026 · Maintained by the site team

Choose a defensive system, check its requirements, and test its boundaries before relying on it during an emergency.

Reviewed build: 0.1.190.146 FULL FIXED R4 · October 26, 2026. Built against RimWorld 1.6.4871. DLC requirements are listed below.

Set up the system

  1. Inspect the research and materials for the selected reinforced construction or trap.
  2. Keep optional material roofing OFF unless you intend to test that system.
  3. Research Electromagnetic protection after Microelectronics for the EMP protector.
  4. Place needed generators or batteries within the protector's coverage as well as the devices they supply.
  5. Check protection inside and outside the field, then test field backup exhaustion.

Current rules and limits

  • The protector has a twelve-tile radius, draws 400 W and stores six game hours of field backup after charging.
  • Backup powers the field only. It does not supply electricity to covered machines or remove the map-wide solar flare.
  • Occupied installed invader displays use their documented terror/suppression rules; empty or stored versions do not provide the same effects.
  • The optional shambler-feeding system defaults OFF; Anomaly reanimation remains the native DLC system.

EMP field reference

Property Documented value
Research Electromagnetic protection after Microelectronics
Radius 12 tiles
Power draw 400 W
Charged field backup Six game hours

The backup keeps the protection field active; it does not power covered machines. Protect relevant generators or batteries as well as the machines they supply. The device does not remove the map-wide solar flare.

Displays and remains

Installed, occupied invader displays provide their documented terror and suppression behavior. Empty displays and stored items do not grant the same effects. Later remains work preserves identity and deals with skeletal appearances; a visual skeleton is not proof that every corpse system treats it as a fresh body.

Test the boundary

Compare a covered device with one outside the radius. Then check backup depletion and the equipment supplying power. Report the active incident, device locations and field state rather than describing every outage as an EMP-protector failure. Optional shambler feeding defaults OFF and does not replace native Anomaly reanimation.
