Enable lumber milling to add a processing chain while preserving the identity of your wood.
Reviewed build: 0.1.190.146 FULL FIXED R4 · October 26, 2026. Built against RimWorld 1.6.4871. DLC requirements are listed below.
Set up the system
- Search lumber in Mod options and enable the independent system.
- Start with the appropriate hewing or sawing station, then research later mills.
- Add Saw any logs or a material-specific bill.
- Supply raw wood and the station's required work conditions, including power for electric mills.
- Check the finished lumber's material identity and available wooden construction uses.
Current rules and limits
- The current default is OFF, following the .118 change. Original .114 ON-by-default notes are historical.
- The chain includes a hewing bench, hand sawmill, electric sawmill and precision mill.
- Finished lumber cannot be remilled to create an infinite material loop.
- Turning the system off retains saved resources, workshops, research and bills; later player choices remain independent of smelting.
Read the material chain
The hewing bench, hand sawmill, electric sawmill and precision mill represent different stages. Material-specific bills and Saw any logs help organize inputs. An electric station still needs its normal operating conditions; the setting alone does not power it.
Avoid false missing-item reports
Compare the raw log item with the finished lumber and inspect the bill filter. Finished lumber cannot be fed back through the mill for an infinite material loop. When the system is disabled, saved research, stations, resources and bills remain; that persistence does not mean new production is enabled.
